Genealogical Guidebook
& Atlas Of Sweden 2nd Edition by Finn A. Thomsen
Research on Swedish pedigrees can probably be conducted with greater ease in the U.S. than in Sweden itself, where the records are not concentrated in one reository but are dispersed throughout various national, and regional archives. In the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, for example, there are more than 60,000 rolls of microfilm of Swedish genealogical records. These records are also available at hundreds of Branch Family History Libaries all over the United States. This book gives a description of the Swedish major sources: the parish registers and the clerical surveys.
Among other features of this book is a list of the parishes of Sweden, prior to 1952, showing the district and country in which each is situated. Each parish is keyed to the appropriate map section. This list also show the years when the parish register and the clerical surves are available on microfilm at the Family History Library. A list of the more common terms found in Swedish genealogical records and an alphabet of the Gothic script to assis in deciphering the old handwriting have also been included.
Reasonably priced, we believe this book will be very helpful for searching for your swedish ancestors. It is a good choice for your genealogy shelf.
