There are now more than 30,000,000 decendants of the Irish and Scotch-Irish who emigrated from Ireland to the American Colonies, the Uniyted States or Canada. Americans have previously had little hope of discovering the historical and genealogical records of their forbears, due to the lack of any comprehensive and detailed guide to the methods of work and the collections of genealogical source materials of all classes, scattered among the many repositories of records in Ireland.
These two volumes, offering the first complete guide to Irish and Scotch-Irish genealogical research ever published in America or abroad, are the result of three extended periods of work in the principal repositories of records throughout Ireland in 1951, 1952, and 1955; consultation and correspondence with the directors of repositories; the accumulation of a private library of historical and genealogical source materials of over two thousand volumes (including microfilms of some seven hundred MSS. volumes of indexes, other MSS. materials, and a few rare printed works); and eleven years devoted to concentrated study while compiling this work.
