Ancestors In German Archives - A Guide To Family History Sources by Raymond S. Wright III , Nathan S. Rives, Mirjam J. Kirkham & saskia Schier Bunting

The German territories, and later the German Empire, provided more emigrants to America than any other European national entity. At the same time Germans were coming to America, they were also emigrating to Russia, South America, Africa, Asia, and to islands in the South Pacific. Descendants of German immigrants often do not know where in Germany to look for the records of their ancestors. Records of births, marriages, and deaths, together with many other government and private records, some dating from the Middles Ages, have been preserved in about 2,000 German archives.  This book details the record collections in these archives that enable researchers to discover and describe German families of the past.
